Hi All! I am just curious what the purpose of New Beginnings is...my understanding is that we have it to introduce the new theme of the year and to welcome the new beehives in. Am I wrong...is there more to it than that or is there a different purpose??? Thanks for your input!!!

    Hi Teresa,

You've certainly started on the right track. What helped me was the Church Handbook under the Young Women auxuiliary, there you will find what you need.

Love your sister in the Gospel.

I am thinking of the theme "We S.E.E.K. to go with the yearly theme with SEEK standing for Seek Earnestly Eternal Knowledge. I thought the decor could be a take off of see to sea with swedish fish on a handout and under the sea type decorations. I need a few more ideas to go with "sea". Ayyone got some?

Me and my friend are planning a NB and she wants to do 50's theme but doesn't know how to make it spiritual? What do I do? I don't even know how to contribute.

  • Stacy

    Mary,
A ward in our stake did something similar, but with an 80's theme. They focused on how several things change over time: music, dress, hairstyles, cars, technology etc. However, our values and standard do no need to change. This ward invited the moms and daughters to attend, decked out in their 80's attire. Good luck!

I really like the idea of "the wolf in sheeps clothing" and think it goes along with the 13th Article of Faith - in that sometimes it's hard to recognize what all those traits are. For part of our New Beginnings program we are doing a Red Riding Hood skit, where she is going to visit her grandmother and along the way keeps meeting the wolf who is disguised as other characters and tries to tempt, distract or discourage her from reaching her destination. The "Values" are there along the way to help remind her of her goals and her values, and every time the wolf re-appears he has one more wolf feature, so in the end, and after applying all the values together, it is very clear to see the wolf behind his deceptions. I also added a little exert from President Uchtdorf's talk from last April 2010 General Conference address to the YW, "Your Happily Ever After". The pdf of the skit is on my site at this link:

I am looking for new beginnings ideas for 2012, any thoughts? Thanks!

Shouldn't the theme for New Beginnings be the theme for the year "Arise and Shine Forth"? I'm new so not sure the protocal but we already have a great theme and we are supposed to be talking about it and using it all year in all our events so why do something different especially if you are struggling in trying to make your theme spiritual? These yearly themes are inspired by our leaders so we should take advantage of that and utilize them in such things as New Beginnings.
It is ultimately up to you to decide and hopefully you pray about it but if you are struggling with what to do, use what has been already given to us! Hope that helps! :)

Im in the stake YW so I got to see 12 programs. this was the funnest. for 2012 arise and shine forth the cutest one i went to was a "sleepover" you came in your pajamas brought a sleeping bag or blanket and they had treats. they did the program and when it was all over, turned the lights higher so it was "morning" arise and shine forth. they served continental breakfast. the decorations looked like a bedroom with a bed and canopy over the head of it, nightstands, lamps, stuffed animals and they played games to review the values and class mottos like charades, pictionary, family fued etc. (name the color for faith, or what's the symbol for miamaids...) and had a guest speaker and the bishop. it was fun
