Aimee Proc with Watermark-01With the Visiting Teaching message for the month of February being on Marriage, it also references The Family:  A Proclamation to the World in the message. I thought this week I would simply share the document that I hand-lettered (every.single.word.) a few years back and it’s available in my Etsy shop.  Click here to view.

The Church is really focusing member’s attention on Family History, and Sugardoodle is here to HELP!

A few months ago Melanie and I were invited to be part of the 2016 Rootstech Family Discovery Day. Our task was to come up with a super fun activity that the youth would love AND that would create some excitement about searching for the deceased.  We came up with a “Find-A-Grave” hunt.  The hunt was so successful that we had lots of youth leaders and stake family history experts stop and ask us for our handout so they could take the activity back to their youth groups, wards and families.

We decided to post the activity and worksheet here on our blog along with a few pointers on how you can do a similar activity.

FIND-A-GRAVE HUNT…

Give everyone who will be participating the Find-A-Grave hunt a worksheet.  Explain that this is a timed activity. They will need to go onto Find-A-Grave.com and search for each name on their worksheet.  They then record the date they died, what invention they created and one simple fact {for instance where they were buried}. Whoever finishes first is the winner.

VARIATIONS:

~ You can do this as teams, sharing cell phones at your ward building or home.

~You can do this as a scavenger hunt where you divide the youth into groups and as a team they drive with a leader to a designated house in the ward. There they hunt online for 3 of the graves. They then drive to another designated house and search for the other 3 graves. First team back to the chapel wins! *This is fun to include other families in your ward in the hunt when you use their computers. It’s a great way to get you ward family involved.

We would love to hear what fun things you have done to foster a love for Family History in your ward and family so we can post them on our blog.  Please email us at april.sugardoodle@gmail.com

xo, April

Add a little super power to your Scripture Study

Sometimes scripture study needs a little boost. What better way to keep kids on track with their scripture goals this a simple printable…chock-full of scripture power?

MeckMom Super Suckers 3

Bold, bright and easy to assemble, they’re the perfect addition to your next Primary sharing/singing/class time or as a sweet incentive in your family scripture study. But don’t take our word for it. Check out the latest review from Mary, a Primary Chorister in Heber, Utah…

“These were a BIG hit in my singing time/scripture chase activity! The kids thought they were SO cool and such a fun way to reinforce the theme of the year! I was afraid they’d be time-consuming to construct, but they were very easy to cut and looked awesome without much effort! I’d totally make them again!”

The super suckers come in two sets: red, green, blue, yellow or pink, purple, aqua, yellow. You can find them in the Sugardoodle Shop for only $3.50 each.

“Love One Another” Valentine printable

AFLoveOneAnother2

It’s Valentine’s Day this Sunday.  Want a fun printable to spread some love to a next door neighbor?  How about for a sister in the ward you visit?  Maybe a friend could benefit from you giving a little heart and a gospel message?  Or maybe it’s the family that could use a gentle reminder to love each other as the Savior has loved each one of us?  It’s my  first hand-painted and hand-lettered original, available in a digital download exclusive to the SugarDoodleShop. You can click HERE for purchase.

Note**** The printables I offer are to be printed on 8-1/2 X 11″ digital color print cardstock for best results and fit nicely in the “document” size frames, NOT an 8 X 10 frame.  Document size frames are widely available at craft or office supply stores, discount department stores, dollar stores and even my fave:  IKEA, if you are lucky to have one nearby!

Valentine Surprise

Blog8

I wanted to share with you one of my favorite ideas that I found on  Oh Happy Day.  It’s simple, easy and memorable, but I love most how it makes them feel when they open the box… loved! (and it isn’t a sweet treat which is good in this overloaded sugar world we live in). Can you tell it’s week two of my eating  clean and healthy?

Simply fill your favorite balloon(s) with helium (or just blow them up with air) and put inside of a box. Leave on porches, mail them to grandkids and loved ones. Perfect for not only Valentines, but birthdays & special days… Kids will love to play with them for days! Can’t find heart shaped balloons? No worries. Round ones make them feel just as special XOXO.

Have a wonderful Valentines Day. This is a good weekend to look around you and see who may need a lift of friendship with a visit, a phone call or a balloon.

Take care, Brenda

Loving Others… When It Isn’t Pretty

There are times when loving others asks a lot of us. When our own hearts are broken because of the choices of others, it can be difficult to extend our hearts to those who have caused us the pain.

The best description I have found on charity comes from Larry Barkdull…

“All of the gospel learning in the world does not compensate for failure to live without charity. Both Paul and Mormon – two witnesses taught us that without charity we are nothing. Charity is a different kind of love; it is the celestial quality of love — saving love. “Charity is the pure love of Christ,” meaning the type of love that comprises the power of Christ to search out, seek, wait patiently, reinstate and rejoice.”

“True sons and daughter of God test their love against the “even if” list:

I will love you even if you . . . lie.

I will love you even if you . . . steal.

I will love you even if you . . . yell at me.

I will love you even if you . . . abandon your covenants.

I will love you even if you . . . drink, smoke, take drugs.

I will love you even if you . . . commit sexual sin.

I will love you even if you . . . choose an alternative lifestyle.

I will love you even if you . . . leave home and don’t talk with me for years.

I will love you even if you . . . betray me.

I will love you even if you . . . are committed to prison.”

“We might ask ourselves where our love ceases for a family member. Where does our love cease for a non-family member? Where, would we suppose, does God’s love cease? One of the exacting prices of becoming like God is to learn to love “even if.”

I love the “even if” list and wanted to put it on a little something beautiful to remind me that while loving other’s may not always be easy or pretty, it is how God loves us. He loves us even if

{I happen to be a big fan of Larry Barkdull’s writing and often refer friends to his blog….}

Happy Valentines!
