FREE Printables for the 2018 LDS Primary Theme, “I am a child of God.”

FREE 2018 LDS Primary Printables

Hi friends,
It’s that time of year again, and I have some AWESOME printables to share with you for this year’s primary theme, “I am a child of God.”

I designed these printables with a colorful moon and stars theme. The inspiration came from my 5 year old son. This summer my hubby and I took our family on a late night venture to the mountains. My 5 year old was absolutely blown away by the moon and all of the stars. He kept saying how the moon and stars just made him feel so special, and that Heavenly Father had to have made them just for him. As I was trying to figure out what design to do for this year’s theme of I am a child of God, his words just kept coming back to me, and I knew that I needed to incorporate the moon and stars into the design.

I have some FREE printables available for you to use as needed in your primaries this year. First is this Main Theme Poster. It comes in 7 different sizes, with JPG and PDF files (PDF for printing at home or a printing center, JPG for printing at a photo center. Sizes include 3×5, 4×6, 5×7, 8×10, 11×14, 16×20 and 20×30.

One of my favorite items are these Sharing Time Assignment Wristbands! When I was primary secretary, one thing that was SUPER time consuming was filling in the Weekly Theme for talks and such. I also have created TWO more designs to go along with the “I am a child of God” theme. I decided to stick with the nature theme. I designed another “Moon and Stars” theme, as well as a “Sun” inspired theme. Both of these designs can be found in the Sugardoodle Shop.

Blessed are the Piece Makers: How Handmade Pieces Bring Me Peace #PRINCEofPEACE

This past September, my handsome husband, Jason, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Over the last six months of chemo-filled craziness I have learned something incredibly valuable about peace. Real, lasting peace isn’t found; it is fought for. To keep a firm grip on the peace that is so generously extended by my Savior I have to be an active participant. I have to use whatever energy I have for good and surround myself with reminders that I am not alone. Thankfully, in my house, I don’t have to look very far to find comfort (see the the video below).

My house is filled with art, sewing, woodwork and countless other gifts designed to bring me comfort. If yours is too, I hope you’ll share it! Take a picture, make a video, do whatever you can to celebrate the piece maker in your life and share the message of true and lasting peace.

ASK – Acquire Spiritual Knowledge – 2017 LDS Mutual Theme

2017 LDS Mutual Theme

Hi friends,
I wanted to share with you this AWESOME printable kit that can help with introducing the 2017 LDS Mutual theme.  The theme this year comes from James 1:5, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

I believe this theme is TRULY so inspired! There are so many different aspects of this profound and simple message.  As I thought about what to design to go along with this theme, the quote from Sister Julie B. Beck kept coming to mind, “The ability to qualify for, receive, and act on personal revelation is the single most important skill that can be acquired in this life.” I absolutely LOVE this quote, and think that it ties in PERFECTLY with the theme for this year. I decided to create this kit based on this quote, tying in the acronym, “ASK = Acquire Spiritual Knowledge,” and using a light bulb to represent knowledge.

The miracle of technology has absolutely changed the way we ask questions, and how we receive answers.  Most of the time, if we have a question, the answer can be easily found at our fingertips via the internet.  But spiritual questions cannot be asked or found answered the same manner.  These questions have to be asked in faith, and received by personal revelation.

You can use the theme of “ASK – Acquire Spiritual Knowledge” in SO many ways.  I like the idea of introducing the theme at the beginning of the year, and then enforcing the theme throughout the year with special firesides or 5th Sunday Lessons.  This way, you can focus on and highlight different aspects of Acquiring Spiritual Knowledge. (Prayer, Faith, Scripture Study, Temple Attendance, journaling to name a few). I created a few printables quotes that coordinate perfectly and can be used throughout the year as handouts, or can be used as decoration in your YW rooms.

“Pray, He is there. Speak, He is listening.” – I LOVE this line from “A Child’s Prayer” and  has been a great source of comfort during so many different times in my life.  I think this quote PERFECTLY embodies what it means to Ask of God, Ask in Faith.

“Believe, Nothing Wavering” – This quote comes from the second verse of the theme for the year, and it has profound meaning in so few words.

“Fourth Floor, Last Door” –  I think this was my FAVORITE quote from last General Conference!  It comes from Elder Uchtdorf’s talk from Women’s Session.  This quote hit home for me, and knew that I needed to have this quote included in this kit.

Each of us has either had very personal experiences with these quotes, or know someone who does.  Our youth NEED to hear these experiences.  Where appropriate, SHARE them!  Invite others to share them with your youth!  I believe the more that our youth hear DIFFERENT ways that others have Acquired Spritual Knowledge and subsequently how they have received personal revelation, the more they will be able to recognize how the spirit speaks to them in their own lives.

Along with the quotes, this kit comes with LOADS of additional coordinating printables to help enforce the theme including a Banner, YW Values Posters, YW Theme Poster, Gift Tags, Refreshment Toppers, Food Tent Labels, Treat Bag Toppers and SO MUCH MORE!  You can find this printable kit here.

I have LOVED creating this kit for you, and hope that it helps inspire you to ASK – Acquire Spiritual Knowledge.

Heart,
Melanie B

2017 Primary Birthday and Gift Ideas

Primary2017-BirthdayBlogListing-01
Hi friends,
Today I want to share with you some AWESOME and EASY gift ideas to help make planning primary for next year a BREEZE!  In the Sugardoodle Etsy Shop, we have a great Birthday and Gift Pack.  This kit includes LOADS of different printables that you can use in SO many different ways! It is also a great way to emphasize the theme throughout the year.  Today, I want to show you TEN different ways that these printables can be used, but really, possibilities are endless!

Primary2017-BirthdayBlogListingPics-011. “Chews” The Right Gumball Machine
Seriously, how cute is this? And SUPER easy.  I consider myself a creative person, but have not been gifted with much ability to “craft.”  I whipped this baby up in minutes, and with no tears (which is usually how my “craft” projects end).  For this, I bought a plastic ornament, a red cup, and gumballs.  I slid a hair band over the red cup to trace where I wanted to cut, cut it, and then cut a small hole for the ornament to go into.  I filled the ornament with gumballs and placed it into the cup.  To make it more secure, hot glue would probably work:) I then just taped on the 2″ “Chews” the right sticker from the Printable Pack.  Easy Peasy.  And so stinkin’ cute!  My 5 year old has been begging me for it since I made it:)Primary2017-BirthdayBlogListingPics-042. Bottle Caps / Zipper Pulls
For these, I cut out a variety of the 1″ circles from the Printable Pack to make these adorable Bottle caps.  These would also work great as zipper pulls.

Primary2017-BirthdayBlogListingPics-103. Candy Bar Wrapper
For this cute and easy gift, I simply bought a chocolate bar and wrapped in our “Choose the Right” candy bar wrapper.  I then attached the 2″ Happy Birthday Circle.

Primary2017-BirthdayBlogListingPics-094. “Chews” the right Gumball Tube with Card
Seriously, kids love gumballs.  So I just HAD to do another gift with them.  I bought this clear tube at a local craft store and filled it with large gumballs.  Then on the front, attached the 1″ “Chews” The Right circle.  On the top, I attached a 3/4″ Happy Birthday circle (which you cant see in the pic).  You can also include this cute Birthday Card.  Using the Birthday card from the kit is a great way to personalize the birthday gift.  Write a quick note on the back letting the child know how special they are and why you are glad they are in primary.

Primary2017-BirthdayBlogListingPics-025. Mason Jar Goodies
Seriously, who wouldn’t LOVE getting this jar of chocolate goodness?  For this gift I used the variety of 3/4″ circles available in the package, cut them and used double stick tape to attach to the bottom of min Reese’s peanut butter cups, Rolo’s, and Hershey Kisses.  On the top of the jar, I put one of the 3″ circles available in the kit, and then tied a 2″ birthday circle on.I personally think this is a GREAT gift to give to teachers and leaders.  For the children, I would do the same idea, but put less in a treat bag and use one of the Treat Bag Topper Printables available.

Primary2017-BirthdayBlogListingPics-056. Treat Bag
Speaking of treat bags…Here is an idea you can use to fill treat bags.  The treat bag toppers are 4″, so I just filled 4″ bags with some Hi-Chews and stapled on the Treat Bag Topper available in the Printable Package.  I also taped on a 2″ “Chews” the right circle.

Primary2017-BirthdayBlogListingPics-037. Pencil and Notepad with Pencil Topper
I love the simplicity of this idea. And kids love pencils and notepads! I just taped on a Choose the Right 2″ circle as a pencil topper and included the birthday card.  Done and done.

Primary2017-BirthdayBlogListingPics-088. Mini Chocolate Candy Bars
I LOVE this idea!  Wrap nugget chocolate bars and place in treat bags, mason jar, or cellophane bag like I did here.  I also cut a square around the 2″ circle to top the bag.

Primary2017-BirthdayBlogListingPics-069. “Chews” the Right Gift tag with Gum
For this gift, I used the birthday gift tag available in the Birthday Package and taped a package of gum in the middle of it.  I then taped a 1″ “Chews” the Right circle to the top of the tag.

Primary2017-BirthdayListingPics-0710. Pencils with Pencil Toppers
You guys. This. This is my favorite.  I mentioned earlier that kids love pencils.  Don’t ask me why, but they do.  I wanted to show you a FUN way to present the pencils to the kids.  I just bought Styrofoam in the shape of a cake, covered it with paper and glued sprinkles onto it.  Then, just decorate the top any way you’d like.  Arrange the pencils with the 2″ circles used as Pencil toppers throughout the cake.  Let the child choose their pencil when it is their birthday and simply re-fill each week.  Kids go BANANAS for this!  It is SO fun and a great non-candy birthday gift!

There you have it folks!  This printable Birthday and Gift Pack can really be used in SO many ways! I hope you have fun making great gifts for your children and leaders.

Melanie B.SageWood Ave. Designs
